The Good Shepherd motif was designed by Hendrik & Maurice Slabbinck during World War II. Jeroen Kerre adapted the original design to a combination of traditional and modern techniques of hand-and-machine embroidery. The Good Shepherd design is hand embroidered, while the Pelican and Paschal Lamb motif are machine embroidered. The flowers in the band have a strong liturgical meaning. The Good Shepherd goes back to the words of Christ; Jesus tells us in John 10:11: "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."

The design is an expression of the gratefulness and beauty that we experience in the eternal love that Christ offers us, through his own sacrifice and Resurrection.
