Molina 2937 – Passion of Christ Gothic Chalice & Paten

A magnificent expression of traditional Spanish ecclesiastical artistry, the Molina 2937 Passion of Christ Chalice combines exquisite Gothic ornamentation, intricate religious engravings, and rich 24-karat gold plating. Featuring six beautifully detailed medallions depicting the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, this exceptional sacred vessel provides a reverent and meaningful setting for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

Handcrafted in Spain by Molina Artistic Silver, the 2937 features an elegantly proportioned cup supported by a richly ornamented Gothic stem, decorative node, and elaborately sculpted base. The exceptional detailing reflects the traditional European silversmithing techniques for which Molina is renowned.

Six Engraved Scenes of the Passion of Christ

The chalice's most distinctive feature is its beautifully decorated base, featuring six engraved medallions illustrating significant moments from the Passion and Resurrection of Our Lord:

  • The Agony in the Garden: Jesus prays in the Garden of Gethsemane before His arrest.
  • The Scourging at the Pillar: Christ endures His suffering in preparation for His Crucifixion.
  • The Crowning with Thorns: Jesus is mocked and crowned with thorns.
  • The Carrying of the Cross: Christ carries His Cross toward Calvary.
  • The Crucifixion: Our Lord offers His life for the salvation of mankind.
  • The Resurrection: Christ triumphs over death, fulfilling His promise of eternal life.

Together, these six scenes create a powerful visual representation of Christ's sacrifice and victory over death, beautifully connecting the sacred vessel to the Eucharistic celebration.

Traditional Latin Inscription

Adding to the chalice's spiritual significance is the traditional Latin inscription engraved around the cup:

"Calicem Salutaris Accipiam Et Nomen Domini Invocabo"

Translated as:

"I will take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord."

Drawn from Psalm 116:13, this inscription provides a particularly meaningful connection to the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

Exceptional Gothic Craftsmanship

The chalice is distinguished by its richly sculpted Gothic ornamentation, decorative architectural details, and finely engraved metalwork extending throughout the base, stem, node, and cup.

The beautiful 24-karat gold-plated finish highlights the intricate craftsmanship, creating a warm and traditional appearance appropriate for solemn liturgical celebrations.

Manufactured by Molina Artistic Silver of Spain, the 2937 reflects the manufacturer's longstanding commitment to exceptional quality, traditional artistry, and distinguished sacred vessels.

Available in two construction options, the chalice may be ordered in 24-karat gold-plated brass or gold-plated brass with a sterling silver inner cup.

Standing 8¾ inches tall, with a 4⅛-inch cup diameter and 10-ounce capacity, this chalice is particularly well suited for parish churches, cathedrals, religious communities, and clergy seeking a beautifully ornamented traditional vessel.

A coordinating 6¼-inch scale paten with ring is included, completing this exceptional liturgical set.

Matching Ciborium Available

The Molina 2937-1 Covered Ciborium is available separately and features coordinating Gothic ornamentation and gold-plated construction. The matching ciborium accommodates approximately 250 communion hosts, allowing churches to create a beautifully unified collection of sacred vessels.
