Molina 2938 – Gothic Chalice & Scale Paten
A magnificent example of traditional Spanish ecclesiastical craftsmanship, the Molina 2938 Gothic Chalice combines elaborate Gothic ornamentation, exquisite engraving, and rich 24-karat gold plating. Featuring six beautifully detailed medallions depicting significant scenes and symbols from salvation history, this exceptional sacred vessel provides a distinguished and meaningful setting for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
Handcrafted in Spain by Molina Artistic Silver, the 2938 features an elegantly proportioned cup supported by an intricately decorated stem and ornamental node. The elaborate Gothic detailing continues throughout the beautifully sculpted base, creating a harmonious combination of traditional architectural design and fine ecclesiastical metalwork.
Six Engraved Medallions
The chalice's most distinctive feature is its richly ornamented base, incorporating six finely engraved medallions representing important events and symbols from Sacred Scripture:
- The Crucifixion: Christ's supreme sacrifice upon the Cross for the salvation of mankind.
- Symbol of Salvation: Traditional Christian imagery representing mankind's redemption through Christ.
- The Sacrifice of Isaac: Abraham's willingness to offer his son Isaac, prefiguring the sacrifice of Christ.
- Melchizedek: The Old Testament priest and king whose offering of bread and wine foreshadows the Eucharist.
- The Manna in the Wilderness: God's miraculous provision of bread for the Israelites during their journey through the desert.
- The Paschal Lamb: A powerful symbol of sacrifice and deliverance, prefiguring Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.
Together, these beautifully executed engravings illustrate the connection between the Old and New Testaments and the institution of the Holy Eucharist.
Traditional Gothic Craftsmanship
The chalice features intricate Gothic ornamentation extending across its decorative outer cup, beautifully detailed node, and broad sculptural base. Delicate engraving and ornamental metalwork create depth and dimension throughout the vessel.
The richly polished 24-karat gold-plated finish emphasizes the elaborate craftsmanship while providing a traditional and reverent appearance appropriate for the celebration of Mass.
Manufactured by Molina Artistic Silver of Spain, the 2938 reflects generations of European silversmithing tradition and exceptional attention to detail.
Available in two construction options—gold-plated brass or gold-plated brass with a sterling silver inner cup—this chalice offers churches and clergy a choice of materials while retaining its distinctive Gothic design.
Standing 9 inches tall, with a 4⅜-inch cup diameter and 14-ounce capacity, the Molina 2938 is suitable for parish churches, cathedrals, religious communities, and solemn liturgical celebrations.
A coordinating 6¼-inch scale paten with ring is included, completing this beautiful sacred vessel set.
