The Molina AS-197-1-L Oversize Ciborium is the large-capacity covered ciborium in Molina’s distinguished AS-197 Romanesque Collection, offering the same traditional styling as the coordinating AS-197 altar vessels in a substantially larger format.
Measuring approximately 9½" high with a 6½" diameter cup, the AS-197-1-L holds approximately 500 hosts, making it an excellent choice for larger parishes, cathedrals, major feast-day liturgies, Christmas and Easter Masses, diocesan celebrations, and other occasions requiring greater Eucharistic capacity.

500-Host Capacity
The defining advantage of the AS-197-1-L is its substantially increased capacity.
While the standard AS-197-1 holds approximately 300 hosts, the larger AS-197-1-L increases capacity to approximately 500 hosts while retaining a traditional covered ciborium form.
This makes it particularly useful for churches with large Sunday attendance or parishes that require additional capacity for major liturgical celebrations.
Available Metal Configurations
Molina offers the AS-197-1-L in:
- Brass – Silver Plated
- Sterling Silver Inner Cup – Gold Lined
- All Sterling Silver – Gold Lined
This provides several options depending on the desired construction, precious-metal content, and parish budget.
Matching AS-197 Collection
The AS-197-1-L coordinates with:
- AS-197 Chalice – approximately 14 oz.
- AS-197-1 Covered Ciborium – approximately 300 hosts
- AS-197-1-L Oversize Ciborium – approximately 500 hosts
- AS-197-2 Open Ciborium – approximately 350 hosts
Together, these vessels allow a parish to create a coordinated Romanesque altar set while selecting different ciborium capacities for different liturgical needs.
Romanesque Collection
Molina describes its Romanesque collection as combining the balance, elegance, and craftsmanship associated with the historic Romanesque tradition. The pieces are developed by Molina’s silversmiths as traditional ecclesiastical vessels intended for the celebration of the liturgy.
Handmade in Spain
The AS-197-1-L is produced by Molina in Spain as part of its handcrafted liturgical metalware collection. Molina’s current catalog identifies the collection as Hand Made in Spain.
